A free Natural History Exhibit at The Johnson, Jones and Masters Natural History Museum is one of the largest in the U.S. while the Eco Lab has a petting farm where your children can get up close and personal with frogs, bunnies, turtles and baby gators to name a few. The Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium is another attraction where there are laser light shows or swamp walks or haunted walks on their trails.

In downtown Fort Myers you can take a sightseeing or dinner cruise on a paddle wheeler or take a cruise on the Caloosahatchee River or through the Franklin Locks. Deep sea fishing is also a big activity in this area or for a more tranquil attraction you can go to the Butterfly Conservatory with waterfalls and lush tropical plants. The Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre offers shows and also has a Children’s Theatre and concerts.
A trip to the winter estates of Edison and Ford provide you with a museum that has Edison’s phonographs and some of his other inventions. Manatee Park is an aquatic park along with a nature and wildlife areas to explore. The Sun Harvest Citrus gives factory tours and the Lakes Regional Park has a train ride that is great for the kids.
The Weather is Fine in Fort Myers
Located on the southern Gulf Coast of Florida, Fort Myers enjoys warm weather year round although the summers tend to be hotter – in the 80s to 90s (30-32°C) – especially during July and August. Most of the rest of the year it is in the 70s (22 - 23°C). Fort Myer is ideal for family holidays year round where you can enjoy your favorite activities.
Flights to Fort Myers
From the UK there is no direct flight to Fort Myers, Florida. There are connecting flights from Tampa or Orlando. You can fly direct from Manchester to Tampa International Airport which is a two hour drive to Fort Myers. There are numerous car rental agencies available at the airport to choose from that include Avis, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz or Thrifty. Still others that need a shuttle to reach are Alamo and Payless.
